Clare Almshouses

What is an Almshouse

An almshouse is a charitable housing facility provided to those in need, particularly the elderly or poor. Historically, almshouses were established by philanthropists or religious organisations to offer free or low-cost accommodation to individuals who couldn't afford housing.

Founded in the 17th Century, the Clare Almshouses were established to provide housing for the poor and elderly of the Parish.  They were designed to offer shelter and support to those in need, reflecting the community's commitment to social welfare.
